The Iron Man theme song is probably one of the most recognizable in the history of motion pictures and even of the entertainment industry itself. If you’ve seen any of the previous Iron Man movies or the comic book series, then you’re already familiar with its catchy tune. However, if you haven’t seen either one of these super hero movies or the comics, you might be surprised that a theme song exists for a different kind of hero…the Iron Man toy. Now, it’s not exactly the kind of movie theme song that you would expect to hear for a big budget superhero blockbuster like Iron Man.
Instead, it’s the kind of theme song that you’d expect to hear in a children’s musical about a hero created by Stan Lee and Al Goffman as an alternative to the typical Superman theme. It’s a rock band style arrangement that’s made popular by the likes of Nine Inch Nails and the Killers. It’s also the theme song for the animated Marvel Comics film Iron Man 3. The music was created by none other than John Williams, who did the scoring for the very first Iron Man movie as well as the theme song for the similar animated feature released in 2021 – Spider-Man. So while it’s unlikely that Iron Man 3 will feature a theme song that rivals the popularity of Williams’ Iron Man 2 score, it’s a safe bet that it will at least follow in a similar vein. And the Killers are already set to give it a pretty good run for its money.
That being said, it’s not just any Iron Man theme song that can be used to score an entire feature film. Instead, it’s probably best to stick to a standard theme song for an upcoming blockbuster like Iron Man 3 instead. This is because the score is a lot less important than the actual movie – the visual and action sequences certainly bring in the money. Thus, it might be a smart move to focus on creating a great score than it is to attempt to create a great theme song.
The most obvious candidate for a theme song for the Iron Man 3 is Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here. Although it’s quite a simple and fairly basic composition, the simplicity of the lyrics and the instrumentals makes for a memorable track. Because it’s a staple in the band’s discography, many fans prefer it to The Darkest Day. One of the reasons why Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here is such a great choice for an Iron Man 3 theme song is that it features an acoustic guitar solo that’s just begging to be played over. In fact, when I watch the film again, I can’t help but listen to that guitar solo again.
Another great candidate for an Iron Man 3 theme song is UBont Music’s classic 1966 man theme song titled “Reelin’ in the Years.” The track goes a bit further than “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd, as it includes keyboards and horns along with a strong beat. I think if you compare UBont’s “Reelin’ in the Years” to the modern version, you’ll find that UBont has a lot more depth and soul than the modern version of the theme.
Finally, there’s another song from The Deerhunter that should make an excellent Iron Man 3 score, and that’s the song titled “Love Actually.” The song isn’t exactly a love song, per se, but it does have a very important message that the protagonist, Martin Bales, needs to internalize: no one is perfect. In light of the events depicted in the movie, this song comes across as a very positive message, and its melody perfectly complements the tone of the entire film.
