Marvel’s Iron Man VR Bundle Review

Marvel’s Iron Man VR is a PlayStation VR exclusive that puts you in the suit of the world’s most famous super hero. Using hand-directed repulsors, you soar through the air, blasting villains and navigating physics-defying action sequences. Between missions, you’ll retire to Stark’s Malibu garage to tweak your armor and upgrade your weapons.

It’s a remarkably fun setup. While the story may not grab you by the gut, flying around as Tony Stark’s alter ego is a thrill. And although enemy variety thins out, the game still offers plenty of challenge to keep you flying and fighting.

The gameplay is a little complicated. You hold the PS Move controllers down by your waist, aim your palms backwards to engage thrusters and fly, and then twist your hands to tilt subtly in the air. You can use your right thumb to fire a laser, and if you’re feeling particularly powerful, you can tap the left trigger to deploy a destructive unibeam.

As you fight, the camera flies behind and above you, and you can even use your hands to look around the room for nearby enemies. While this isn’t the most immersive experience in terms of visuals, it’s one of the most engaging and responsive ways to control Iron Man, especially if you’re playing with friends.

In addition to the core flying and combat, the game has a handful of interesting side missions. You can use a special ability called ‘Heat Vision’ to read the electromagnetic fields of enemies, and there are even some puzzles that let you use your repulsors to interact with the environment.

For example, one of the first sequences asks you to fly into a plane’s fuselage and tear open the bottom with your gauntlets. This is an incredibly cool interaction that shows off the power of the PlayStation VR hardware, and the potential of virtual reality in general.

While there are a few rough edges, Marvel’s Iron Man VR is an outstanding launch title for the PlayStation VR. Its innovative movement system and exhilarating combat are matched by a full campaign with tons of extras, all wrapped up in a compelling narrative. Camouflaj has made a great first impression on the Quest platform, and I can’t wait to see what else this studio comes up with in the future.

The PlayStation VR Marvel’s Iron Man VR Bundle is available for preorder now, and will release on July 3. This bundle includes a PlayStation VR headset, camera, and two PlayStation Move motion controllers. A free demo for the game is also available. This is the best way to get into PlayStation VR if you don’t already own a headset and controllers. You can find more information about the console and the new bundle on Sony’s official website.
