The iron man war machine is a superhero that has appeared in multiple series of the marvel comics. He is a member of the Avengers and has been involved in many battles including against Thanos. He is also the leader of the Iron Patriots. He is a superhuman that has enhanced strength, speed, agility and durability. He can deflect, absorb and rechannel various energy sources and has the ability to withstand blunt force, weapons grade damage and is an expert at different types of energy shielding.
He was created by David Michelinie, John Byrne, and Bob Layton. The character first appeared in the comic book Iron Man #118 (1979) and became a full-fledged hero in issue #169 (1983). The character is named after the War Machine Armor that he uses as his primary armor. The armor was originally designed by Tony Stark but was rebuilt into the War Machine Armor by Hammer Industries.
During the Stark Expo, Justin Hammer unveiled Rhodes as the pilot of his newly designed army of Hammer Drones and displayed them to the world at the event. During his speech, Hammer explained how the Drones were designed to save lives in the military and that he wanted someone to command them like a human, which led him to create the War Machine armor.
When War Machine landed at the Expo, he was greeted with a cheer from the crowd and was informed that he had a mission to complete. He was then told that Vanko had a target lock on him and that the drones would be redirected towards civilians in the surrounding area. War Machine quickly realized that the Hammer Drones had been set to destroy the Globe statue that was at the center of the Expo and he had them all directed at it.
As they collided, the drones exploded in a fireball that destroyed dozens of them. When the dust settled, War Machine was able to communicate with Stark and warned him that J.A.R.V.I.S had been compromised by Vanko. Despite being unable to prevent him from acting on his orders, Stark refused to allow War Machine to continue fighting and instead sent him to rescue the innocent civilians.
As the heroes arrived in Wakanda, they were hampered by Thanos’ massive army and forced to retreat. In the aftermath, War Machine and Black Panther were able to hold back his army as they resurrected the victims of the Snap. War Machine was later sent by Stark to help him protect the Power Stone from Morag. When the Avengers eventually regrouped in 2019 to fight Thanos, the two were unable to defeat him and he was defeated by the Infinity Stones. After that, the team regrouped and retried to find the Stones.
