Iron Man VR: Play as Marvel’s iconic hero

Developed by Camouflaj and released in VR exclusively for the PlayStation 4, Iron Man VR is an immersive virtual reality experience that puts you in the shoes of Tony Stark. It’s a high-end title that offers a deep, engrossing experience and a thrilling gameplay that will leave you begging for more.

The Story

Iron Man VR tells the story of the man behind the suit himself, Tony Stark, and is written by comic book author Ryan Payton. The game takes the MCU’s established lore and canon into account, but tries to create a wholly original plot for the player to enjoy through the lens of Stark’s helmet.

Characters

Along with Iron Man himself, players will also encounter a number of other Marvel heroes and villains throughout the campaign. These characters are not directly linked to the main protagonist, but they help to give a sense of continuity and depth to the narrative.

The story follows a group of heroes on their quest to stop an international terrorist from using Stark’s advanced technology to cause chaos and death. As Stark’s past comes back to haunt him, the Avengers team up with their own weapons to stop a threat that will change the world as we know it.

Gameplay

Flying in VR can be a challenge, but thanks to the responsive and intuitive controls, it becomes a reflexive experience that’s fun to play. Basically, you use your hands to control the direction of the flight, as well as what weapons you’re holding.

When flying, you can strafe left or right with your hands, and shoot out nerve blasts in either hand by pressing the triggers. In addition to that, you can also use a charging dashing punch and a pair of secondary weapons such as missiles and smart bombs.

You can also switch between the different weaponry and attack styles by pressing the buttons on your controller. If you’re not comfortable with your controls, there are some tutorials available in the start of the game that explain everything about how to use Iron Man’s weaponry and flight.

During the tutorials, you’ll be required to complete some simple missions to gain experience and unlock new weapons and upgrades for your Iron Man armor. This will allow you to better customize your suits and take on new challenges as you progress.

A good narrative is always a plus in a video game, and that’s where Iron Man VR excels. The game’s plot is a solid and engaging one that will appeal to fans of the MCU, but it’s still a relatively fresh take on the superhero storyline.

The game itself is a well-made action title with some impressive visuals and immersive audio. However, it is held back by its slow loading times and repetitive areas. This could have been avoided if the developers had made use of the more powerful hardware in the PS4 and PlayStation VR.
