When Marvel’s Iron Man VR first released on PSVR two years ago, it was a good game. Despite being held back by a few hardware limitations, it was fun and entertaining. It also gave players the chance to step into Stark’s armored suit and jet around the globe, chasing Ghost and blasting drones. It was also one of the first post-MCU attempts to give the hero his own solo video game, which is a pretty big deal in its own right.
Sadly, the original game suffered from many issues including lengthy load times and a wired, VR-specific, set of controllers that wasn’t very comfortable to use. The Meta Quest 2 port, however, makes the experience much better thanks to a clean and intuitive control scheme and smoother gameplay that doesn’t require you to worry about your legs getting tangled in the PSVR’s cables.
What’s more, the game’s combat is genuinely great to play and you can feel really immersed in your role as Tony Stark. The game’s combat system is based on a simple mechanic where you collect upgrade points from missions and use them to purchase Iron Man’s suit, which can include various upgrades like more powerful weapons or different armour. It’s a nice loop to follow, especially as you earn more upgrade points and can get more and more expensive suits.
In addition, the game features a host of fan-service touches that help you really feel like you’re playing as the real Iron Man and interact with Pepper Potts and Nick Fury in various ways throughout the story. This is one of those games that you’ll want to replay over and over again to unlock all the different toys and get the best score possible.
The main story in the game is a little short, but there are some interesting cut-scenes and well-written voice acting to keep things going. The story focuses on Stark’s amoral past as a weapons-merchant and his battle against an evil computer hacker named Ghost, who is out to punish him for it.
This is a decent enough story to get through, although it’s not the most interesting or exciting that we’ve seen from the MCU. If you’re a fan of Marvel’s films then it’ll be more than enough for you, but if you’re looking for something new and different then you might want to check out other MCU games that we’ve already reviewed.
There are a few quests you’ll want to complete early on in the game to boost your Hitpoints. These include Alfred Grimhand’s Barcrawl, Witch’s House and the Waterfall Quest (which you can get to by running north from Ardougne).
During this part of your questing adventure, you’ll be doing a lot of skilling, so it’s important to do them as fast as possible so you can level up quickly. Skills that you should be aiming to gain in this stage include: Thieving, Crafting, Fishing, Mining and Agility.
If you’re planning on making some quick cash, then it’s worth investing in some construction gear. The most useful pieces of equipment to buy in this area are: buckets of slime from Trader Stan’s Trading Post and buckets of clay from the Clay Bank.
