Iron Man in Extremis Armor

The King in Black may be wreaking havoc across the Marvel Universe, but it looks like our hero is going to get his own way back. RDJ posted an image to Instagram that shows him in his Extremis Armor as he faces off against the giant symbiote dragon Fin Fang Foom. The armor, which was created in a flash of genius following the events of Iron Man 3, is powered by Stark’s own blood and is integrated into his own body. The suit is also equipped with a number of anti-gravity devices and a new version of his repulsor beam.

The Extremis Armor first debuted in the comics in 2005’s Iron Man #4 (by Warren Ellis and Adi Granov) as the solution to the dire threat posed by Mallen, a villain who was imbued with the Extremis virus. The virus grants its victims superhuman powers, including an enhanced healing factor and other mutations. The armor consists of an inner vest that contains the actual serum, a gold undersheath that stores the entire suit until it is summoned and outer pieces that snap on to the skin.

It was an instant hit, becoming a fan favorite that helped Stark win several important battles over the years. It even saved his life in the face of a cardiac arrest during his fight with Whiplash. It would later go on to be incorporated into his arc reactor and become the Hyperion Armor, which was able to withstand immense heat and pressure.

In the show, Stark’s Hyperion Armor was also adapted into his Arctic and Space armor, which have both been used to stop threats as diverse as the Blizzard and the Masters of Silence. It even spawned a companion suit called Dio, which is designed to be his final armor as he retires from his duties as Iron Man. He even entrusts the armor to his friend and sometimes bodyguard, Jim Rhodes.

Like the Extremis Armor, Dio consists of a series of interchangeable parts to allow it to meet the needs of each mission. If he needs larger jet boots or more powerful repulsor beams, the suit can be upgraded to accommodate his specific needs with the push of a button. It has a sleek design and a silver and gold color scheme that evokes Stark’s modern technological sensibilities.

The new figure from Sentinel features a high-quality, fully articulated body with lights in his eyes and chest that glow when activated. The figure includes a pair of fisted hands, other interchangeable hands, the Hall of Armor base, and two test batteries (LR41 type). This is an impressive release that demonstrates just how much the line has evolved since it was introduced.

You can pick up the Iron Man (Extremis Armor) figure from your local retailer or the Marvel Shop online. The set is priced at $59.90 and is available now. Be sure to check out our complete review of this exciting new figure and see all the details of its incredible design in the gallery below!
